We believe church should be simple and meaningful. Our starting point and the foundation on which the church is built is the Word of God. The Bible is inspired, inerrant, authoritative, sufficient, and consistent in all that it teaches. Jesus Christ is Lord of all and the head of the church. The gospel is the good news that Jesus has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14)
1. Make Disciples: We want everyone to know Christ, repent of sin, and trust in Christ for salvation.
2. Mature Disciples: We desire for people to grow in their faith in Christ.
3. Multiply Disciples: We will show Christ in everything we do. Every disciple of Jesus who is growing in their faith will be equipped to make other disciples.
The message of the gospel changes our relationship with God, others, and the world. The three pillars of River City Church are gospel-focused worship, gospel-formed community, and gospel-fueled service.
Gospel-focused Worship – Weekly worship gatherings that center on preaching/teaching of the Word, worship in song, giving of tithes, and regular taking of the Lord’s Supper. This is the place that many people first find their way to the church body, however it is not an effective way of connecting people to one another. This is accomplished as people are intentionally involved in community with one another.
Gospel-formed Community – We love others in community. As we grow closer to God we grow closer to fellow believers in community, in short: gospel forms community. Community groups are the foundation of our local church body for two reasons: 1) They are the primary way that people get connected and feel connected with the larger body of believers. 2) They are the primary vehicle for putting discipleship into action on a daily basis. The purpose of community groups is for believers to be sharpening one another. (Proverbs 27:17) Members gather weekly to show genuine love to one another, to learn together, to serve together, to encourage one another, to pray together, and to grow toward maturity.
Gospel-fueled Service – As a response to the grace shown to us by God and others, we strive to meet the needs and build relationships with those in our community. This is accomplished on an individual level as Christians find ways to serve others that fit their gifting and abilities. This is accomplished corporately as the entire local body joins efforts in serving our community.
