Colossians: Complete in Christ

We’ve begun a new sermon series at River City Church over the book of Colossians. This short letter was written to a church in a smaller community that was never visited by Paul. It seems as if a group of Christians were being misled that faith in Christ was not enough to live the Christian life. They were tempted to add to their faith extra things in order to be “full.” Paul makes it clear that we have everything we need in Christ. We are complete in Christ. If you have heard the true gospel message and have received Christ, then you can be sure that “he who began a good work in you will carry it through until the day of completion” (Philippians 1:6). Our confidence doesn’t rest in our own efforts, but in God who plants us and grows us in the gospel. The gospel message is summed up in Colossians 1:13-14, “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
